Workshop 2: Turning Innovative Ideas into Impactful Programs

In the homelessness sector, innovative ideas can result in transformative change but how do we turn those ideas into impactful, scalable programs? This hands-on workshop will guide participants through a practical framework for planning, measuring, funding and delivering innovative and impactful programs.

The workshop will cover:
-Cultivating a Culture of Ideas:
Exploring how every team member – from frontline workers to leadership – can contribute valuable insights and ensuring a mechanism exists for ideas to be communicated.

-Understanding the Problem
Using an evidence-based approach and tools like lived experience engagement sessions to ensure solutions are grounded in real needs.

-Designing for Impact
Once we have clearly defined the problem, we work through how to shape ideas into structured, responsive programs that have measurable outcomes. We then discuss the Theory of Change model to articulate intended outcomes.
Audience participation – in small groups design a Theory of Change for an existing program or new program idea

-Building Strategic Partnerships
Highlighting the importance of cross-sector, business, and government partnerships that will add specific value, increase program effectiveness and strengthen program sustainability.
Audience participation – group discussion on successful partnerships and what benefit they have had on program delivery and/or effectiveness

-Program Funding
Exploring the many options for program funding and the importance of securing diverse funding streams that may include grants, corporate sponsorships, donations and government support, with tips for aligning funding with mission.

-Measuring and Sharing Impact
Finally, we focus on measuring and sharing program impact, equipping participants with examples of how to evaluate outcomes and communicate success to foster sector-wide learning and scaling opportunities.

This workshop is ideal for homelessness services organisation representatives who are passionate about turning ideas into impactful programs that result in lasting change. Participants will leave with a clear roadmap, practical tools, and confidence to plan, design and measure impactful programs for their organisations.
